CS Larsen's Writer Workshop
Objective: To provide students with an opportunity to creatively write a one to two page fiction story and optional drawing.  The stories and illustrations will be published into a booklet and distributed to the students when complete.

Agenda:

Week One: Author visit (45 minutes).  Author works with students to find creative element to work with.  The students determine central theme of the story, and author discusses how to write a short story (beginning, climax, conflict, ending, etc.).

Student assignment (2-4 hours).  Students will work on rough draft at home or at school of story and illustration.  The objective is to have the story draft typed into Word file by end of week one.  For illustrations, the drawings should be at least pencil sketches and on paper no larger than 8.5"x11".

Week Two: Author visit (45 minutes).  Author to review drafts of stories and answer questions.  Author will discuss editing and rewrite process.  Also discuss next steps in illustration.

Student assignment (2-4 hours).  Students will work on final draft at home or at school of story and illustration.  The objective is to have the final draft of the story typed and into a Word file by the end of week two.  For illustrations, the drawings should be in final format (pen/ink, water color, etc).

Week Three: Author visit (45 minutes).   Author to review final drafts of stories and answer questions.  Author will discuss final editing process and publishing steps.

Student assignment (2-4 hours).  Students will finish their stories and illustrations.  Completed stories will be turned into the teacher.  Stories must be in MS Word format.  Illustrations must be on 8x12 sheet paper or smaller.

Week Four: Student assignment (1-2 hours).  Each Student will receive portion of the draft booklet to review and edit.  Students will look for any mistakes and note in pen.  Students will turn in edits (if any) to teacher.

After week four, the author will perform final editing and submit booklet for publication.  Once the booklet has been printed and shipped, the author will notify the teacher and arrange a time to stop in and discuss book one last time with class (45 minutes).

Fees: A suggested fee is $10/student.
